It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Jesse Lund, who left us on October 22, 2025, at his home in Seabeck, Washington, at the age of 64. Mark spent his final days doing what he loved most — playing cribbage, rooting for the Seahawks, and working alongside his sons.
Born on December 3, 1960, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Vilas (Bud) Lund and Ann Meyer, Mark was the second of four children. Preceded in death by his father, mother, and brothers Stephen and Joseph, he is survived by his sister Nancy, sons Alex and Evan, daughters-in-law Katlyn and Meagan, nephew and nieces Chris, Erin, and Elise, and beloved grand-dog, Dozer.

Mark Lund, KP ’83
12/3/60 – 10/22/25
Mark will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, deep love of the water, and his talent for finding “shortcuts” that almost always turned out to be anything but. From an early age, he threw himself into sports and community — sailing and participating in Boys State — pursuits that eventually led him to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, where he played rugby, was a four year varsity member of the wrestling team, and graduated in 1983 with a double Bachelor’s in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering, holding the midshipman position of Company Executive Officer.
After graduation, Mark made his way to the West Coast, where he began a remarkable, nearly 40-year maritime career that took him across the globe — from factory trollers in Alaska to humanitarian relief efforts around the world. His final professional journey circled the Pacific Ocean, a fitting close to a life spent on the sea.
When home on land, Mark was happiest surrounded by family and friends. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines at his sons’ games, swapping stories over dinner, or traveling across the country for family events, he approached every moment with humor, warmth, and generosity. His love of adventure and exploration was contagious, inspiring those around him to chase experiences and embrace life fully.
In retirement, Mark found joy in what he called his “brewery and ski hill tours,” traveling the country to find fresh powder and good company. He was known for making friends on chairlifts, sharing snacks and stories with anyone who crossed his path.
Mark was a devoted member of Silverdale Lutheran Church since his family’s move to the Kitsap Peninsula in 1998, where he found community, support, and faith both at home and while at sea.
Mark’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, at Silverdale Lutheran Church, beginning at 5:00 p.m., with refreshments to follow.
The Lund family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with memories, thoughts, and prayers since Mark’s passing.
Mark will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May his adventurous soul rest peacefully, reunited with family and friends above.
Mark was my senior year roommate. Main Deck, Cleveland Hall. We were like Oscar and Felix in terms of individual style, but only in the good ways. I learned a lot about rugby from him (usually while he was washing the blood from his face and scalp).
He was a true stand up guy and a good friend.
